Instructor, Domiane Forte
This fast-paced one-day course provides the beginner's introduction to classical architecture. Students of all abilities will learn to free-hand draw the classical moldings, while learning why they work, and how to employ them for greatest effect. We'll study the Doric Order by laying out a column, entablature, and pediment (don't worry, you'll know those terms before the day is done). The class will end with a sketch problem combining these elements to create a classical door aedicula (don't worry...). You will learn why the study of the Orders is an essential foundation in the study of architecture.
This introductory class is Part I of a 3-part series in a study of the Orders a must have for modernists and classicists alike. Part II--the Ionic Order & Part III--the Corinthian Order, will be held on March 17 and April 14 respectively. Students who pre-pay and attend the entire series receive a 10% discount.
