Webinar: Richard Manion Architecture, Streamlined

Please note Pacific Standard Time

Richard Manion will discuss his firm’s projects and design philosophy as illustrated in the firm’s new book, Richard Manion Architecture: Streamlined. Richard Manion Architecture creates distinctive residences and estates with a respect for traditional forms and historic imagery adapted to modern living. This second volume of the firm’s work demonstrates the firm’s signature classicist style, which drawings upon traditional and streamlined classical, regional, and contemporary influences to reflect authentic details, proportions, and a sophisticated sense of place for the 21st Century. In this book, the firm’s focus is on the integration of modernism with an overall framework of simplicity and restraint, discretion and harmony. Academic studies of European modernism, with its visionary approach and embodiment of the machine age, have come back to inspire, but with the understanding that many of its roots can be traced back to the heritage of classical design principles. With this book, RMA’s goal is to unite ideas about traditional, history, and modernity in a synergy and explore the meaning of shared architectural imagery and heritage for our time.

Richard Manion received his architectural degree from Columbia University in 1984 and started his career in the New York offices of two of the country’s most prominent architectural firms—Robert A. M. Stern Architects and Venturi, Rauch and Scott Brown. He established Richard Manion Architecture in Los Angeles in late 2009 after a 15-year partnership in Hablinski + Manion Architecture. The firm, which specializes in private residences inspired by traditional and streamlined architecture adapted to modern living in the U.S. and abroad, have been published in such magazines as Architectural Digest, California Homes, Veranda and the Robb Report. The first monograph of his work, New Classicists: Richard Manion Architecture, was published by Images Publishing Group in 2011. Richard Manion is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Los Angeles Conservancy.
