The ICAA (formerly ICA&CA), founded as two separate nonprofit organizations in 1991 and 1968, respectively, merged in 2002 as a national nonprofit organization by a small group of passionate design professionals whose goals were to celebrate, teach and preserve the Classical Architectural tradition in America. It does so though education, publication, and advocacy. We have grown from humble beginnings to become the leading national non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the practice and appreciation of this classical tradition in architecture and the allied arts. The ICAA now has fourteen chapters throughout the United States and continues to grow.
Our Southern California Chapter was founded in 2004 by architect Marc Appleton and builder David Cohen. The membership, which has expanded each year, is comprised of dedicated architects, interior designers, landscape designers, allied professionals, and assorted vendors throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
Our mission is dedicated to advancing the contemporary practice and appreciation of the classical tradition in our regional architecture, urbanism and the allied arts. We fulfill our mission through several program areas including education, media, events and advocacy. This includes:
- Private tours of significant residences rarely opened to the public.
- Educational meetings held in local artisan workshops, design offices and product showrooms.
- Classes developing skills such as architectural rendering, watercolors and classical detailing.
- Lectures given by prominent speakers from around the world.
